*It is a part of Thieme (January 2017)

Schattauer Publishers is an owner-managed company, founded in 1949, independent from media groups and investment firms. It is being managed by owner and publisher Dieter Bergemann. Dipl.-Psych. Dr. Wulf Bertram, as second managing director, is responsible for the scientific contents of the publishing program. Jan Haaf is the third managing director and deals with "new media". In addition, he is also a member of the management team for the publishing house Psychiatrie Verlag in Cologne.

More than 1.200 books available

Currently, about 1.200 books, ebooks and digital data are available from Schattauer (with 60 new publications approx. each year), mostly atlasses, text- and reference books for physicians and students as well as other health professionals. Numerous titles have been published in various languages, both by Schattauer as well as under license by international publishers. The color atlasses enjoy a worldwide reputation, especially the title Anatomy. A Photographic Atlas, which has already been published in 20 languages. By now a major emphasis lies on monographs and textbooks on psychosomatic medicine, psychiatry and psychotherapy.

Professional journals for all medical specialists

21 journals on human and veterinary medicine, medical informatics, psychotherapy and psychiatry are another focus of Schattauer’s activities. Nervenheilkunde  (Neurology) has the highest circulation of all Schattauer’s journals with about 30.000 copies per issue and 11 issues per year. The English-speaking journal Thrombosis and Haemostasis  is distributed all around the world and due to its high impact factor offers a prominent international stage in the field of blood coagulation. In addition to the print versions, all journals are avaible online. In order to allow for the growing importance of web-based media, Schattauer founded its first electronic-only journal, ACI – Applied Clinical Informatics, in 2010.

Effective January 1st, 2017, Thieme will acquire Stuttgart-based publishing house Schattauer Verlag
